Opening Night Concert: Joshua Bell Plays Lalo

Thursday, September 17, 2026
7:30 PM

About this event

Jader Bignamini opens the program with Chabrier's colorful and imaginative España. Joshua Bell takes the stage with Lalo's Symphonie Espagnole, performing with his characteristic command and refinement. Ginastera's Estancia concludes the evening.

What to Expect

  • 1.Get ready for three big Spanish flavored works with Joshua Bell in the spotlight and a conductor shaping the flow while you just sit back and listen. Youll hear Chabrier España, Lalos Symphonie Espagnole with Bell on the violin, and Ginastera Estancia, so its a mix of fireworks and lyricism.
  • 2.Orchestra Hall is a seated, refined venue on Woodward in Detroit, and the crowd will be quiet and attentive; dress nicely and keep talking to a minimum so everyone can enjoy the music.
  • 3.Intermission will give you a moment to stretch your legs and take in the lobby; concessions are usually available if you want a drink or a quick bite between pieces.
  • 4.Plan your travel and parking near 3711 Woodward, and try to arrive 20 to 30 minutes early to allow for ticket checks, finding your seat, and settling in before the program begins.
  • 5.If you are new to classical concerts, skim the program notes or a quick guide to the pieces so you know what youre listening for and can catch the shifts in mood between the works.
