The Handmaid's Tale

About This Event

Detroit Opera presents Poul Ruders' operatic adaptation of Margaret Atwood's chilling dystopian novel.

What to Expect

• 1.Plan to arrive early to park and find your seats; matinee shows usually open doors well before 2:30 curtain so you have time to settle in.
• 2.Opera houses lean traditional—dress smart casual to semi-formal and wear comfortable shoes for marble floors and stairs.
• 3.If possible, grab center orchestra or a front mezzanine seat for the clearest singing and best sightlines.
• 4.There’s typically an intermission for stretching, restrooms, and a drink; lines can get long, so budget a few minutes for queuing.
• 5.The Handmaid’s Tale adaptation deals with heavy, dystopian themes; go in aware of intense moments and take a breather if needed.
