Fishing Derby
About this event
Community fishing competition for all ages.
What to Expect
- 1.Arrive early to park and check in before the 9 am start—Independence Oaks County Park is big, so give yourself time to find the right HQ and get settled.
- 2.Bring or confirm fishing gear ahead of time. If the organizers provide gear, still bring basic tackle and spare line, plus sun protection, water, and snacks just in case.
- 3.If you’ve got kids, pick a safe shoreline spot and make sure they wear properly fitted life jackets near the water; there will be volunteers around, but constant supervision is on you.
- 4.Pay attention to the official rules and announcements about divisions or how catches are counted, and make sure you pack out trash and respect park guidelines.
- 5.Weather can shift quickly outdoors—bring a chair or blanket, sunscreen, bug spray, and a weather plan (and check the forecast the night before in case you need rain gear).
