Forest Birding

About This Event

Join experts for a morning of forest birding at the MSU Tollgate Farm.

What to Expect

• 1.Arrive a little early to check in at Tollgate Farm; the morning can be chilly, so bring a light layer and wear sturdy shoes for the forest trails.
• 2.Bring binoculars if you have them, and a notebook or your phone for jotting sightings; the expert guides will point out field marks and calls to help you identify birds.
• 3.Dress for the outdoors and expect uneven forest paths; insect repellent and sun protection are helpful, and plan for a steady pace so you don’t miss active birds.
• 4.Keep voices low and move slowly to avoid spooking birds; the quieter you are, the better your chances of seeing interesting species.
• 5.Parking and logistics: Park at the farm entrance and check in at the visitor center; the end time isn’t listed, so plan for a mid-morning session and confirm with the guides if you need to leave early.
