Astronomy at OU
About this event
Get a hands-on experience of astronomy with Oakland University Assistant Professor of Physics Ilias Cholis. Participants will observe the Moon and constellations using binoculars and reflector telescopes.
What to Expect
- 1.You'll move between binocular stations and the reflector telescopes to spot the Moon and nearby constellations, with the professor providing quick demos and tips at intervals.
- 2.The crowd will be small and curious, a casual atmosphere where you can ask questions without feeling pressured.
- 3.There probably won't be a formal food setup, so bring water or a warm drink if you plan to stay out after sunset.
- 4.Plan your logistics in advance: park on campus, arrive a bit early to find the observing area, and keep red lights handy to protect night vision.
- 5.If you're new to stargazing, start with the Moon and bright constellations, ask questions, and bring a small blanket or chair if the ground is dewy.
