What to Expect
- 1.Bring a rough draft or current college-essay prompt you’re wrestling with—this is your chance to get targeted feedback from someone who reads applications for a living.
- 2.The session will be interactive: you’ll do short writing exercises and share work in a small group, so participate and speak up to get real-time guidance.
- 3.Plan to arrive 10–15 minutes early to check in at the Troy Public Library and settle into a quiet space for writing; the library setting can fill up, especially after work/school hours.
- 4.Come with questions about prompts, tone, and how to convey your personal story; the facilitator will explain what admissions officers look for and how to tailor your essay to you.
- 5.After the workshop, practice rewriting your draft using the feedback you got and take advantage of library resources for further prompts or examples; consider scheduling a quick follow-up review with a parent or adviser.
