Nature Society Mushroom Walk
About this event
A naturalist-led walk focusing on mushrooms and other fungi of the urban woods. Led by botanist Mary Fredricks.
What to Expect
- 1.Dress for outdoor walking with sturdy, waterproof footwear and long pants; the Tenhave Woods trails can be damp and muddy, and you’ll be brushing past grasses and leaf litter.
- 2.Bring a small notebook or use your phone to jot notes or snap photos of the fungi Mary points out; you’ll want a record of features to compare later.
- 3.Plan to arrive a bit early to park and meet at the trailhead; weekend mornings can fill the lot and you don’t want to miss the start.
- 4.Stay on marked trails and avoid handling or collecting mushrooms; this helps protect the habitat and the fungi you’re there to learn about.
- 5.Take your time and let Mary guide you through identification tips and urban-wood ecology; the walk clocks in around an hour, but there’s a lot to absorb.
