What to Expect

• 1.The Ark is a small listening room, so you’ll hear every fret and nuance of Shawn Phillips’ guitar work. It’s not a full arena show—expect a quieter, storytelling‑heavy set with moments that invite you to listen closely.
• 2.Arrive early to snag a good seat and soak in the ambience—downtown Ann Arbor parking can be tight, so give yourself extra time for street parking or a nearby lot.
• 3.There’s a small bar at the venue and drinks to purchase before and during the show; bring cash or card and consider tipping if you’re into the performance.
• 4.Respect the listening-room etiquette: keep conversations low during songs, silence or mute your phone, and enjoy the occasional storytelling between numbers.
• 5.If you’re curious about guitar history, expect some anecdotes about Joni Mitchell and George Harrison—plus a mix of classic tunes and perhaps lesser-known pieces; go in with an open ear and you’ll likely walk away inspired.
