About this event

Observe the Moon and constellations using binoculars and reflector telescopes with Assistant Professor of Physics Ilias Cholis.

What to Expect

  • 1.You'll get hands on views of the Moon and bright constellations through binoculars and reflector telescopes, with Ilias Cholis guiding you and naming features like craters and star patterns.
  • 2.The crowd will be a relaxed mix of students and local stargazers, so you can wander between scopes without feeling watched.
  • 3.Dress warm and bring a folding chair or blanket so you can stay comfortable during the hour and a half outside on campus.
  • 4.Plan your parking and arrival for Oakland University on Meadow Brook Road and head to the observing area after you park; the session runs 9:00 to 10:30 pm and may involve some walking between spots.
  • 5.If you are new to stargazing, ask questions and let the professor show you how to use the equipment and find the Moon and constellations.
