Marche du Nain Rouge
About this event
A uniquely Detroit tradition where participants march the 'Nain Rouge' out of the city to banish bad luck for the spring. Costumes are encouraged.
What to Expect
- 1.Plan to stake out a viewing spot along West Canfield Street and Cass Avenue about 30-60 minutes before the 1pm start.
- 2.Dress for spring in Detroit and go with a costume if you want—costumes add to the playful, tradition-rich vibe.
- 3.Wear comfortable shoes and bring water; you'll be on your feet as the march snakes along the route.
- 4.If you’re with kids or new to the scene, stick to wider sidewalks and keep an eye on crowds; the Nain Rouge may appear at multiple points along the route.
- 5.Parking around Midtown can be tight—consider transit or rideshare, and check for temporary street closures on the day.
